{"id":19399,"date":"2024-10-12T14:33:25","date_gmt":"2024-10-12T21:33:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edmondspetanqueclub.org\/?p=19399"},"modified":"2024-10-13T09:34:35","modified_gmt":"2024-10-13T16:34:35","slug":"ghoul-boules-in-edmonds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edmondspetanqueclub.org\/index.php\/2024\/10\/12\/ghoul-boules-in-edmonds\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Ghoul Boules&#8221; in Edmonds"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>&#8220;I was working in the lab late one night when my eyes beheld an eerie sight&#8221; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A blazing sunset welcomed about 20 petanquers to Civic Field, Friday, October 11, 2024.\u00a0 The event?\u00a0 Vampire Petanque aka The Fandango Festival and Ghoulish Petanque. \u00a0 Inspired by Mari Dever and endorsed by Paul Dever and the rest of us enthusiasts, the vampire players gathered under the pavilion and set the table with hot cider and an assortment of goodies like Keogh&#8217;s yummy pumpkin chocolate chip cookies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the guys strung a couple or three courts with twinkle lights accompanied by lanterns and a spot light.&nbsp; Mari brought a collection of lighted cochonnets that helped us see THEM in the midst of the darkening courts.&nbsp; Others brought flashlights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"771\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.edmondspetanqueclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/headlamps.jpeg?resize=771%2C1024&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19405\" style=\"width:823px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>&#8220;The ghouls all came from their humble abodes, to get a jolt from my electrodes&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.edmondspetanqueclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/boulesinlight-1.jpeg?resize=1024%2C768&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19412\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.edmondspetanqueclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/boulesinlight-1-980x735.jpeg 980w, https:\/\/www.edmondspetanqueclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/boulesinlight-1-480x360.jpeg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>&#8220;For you the living, the Mash was meant too. When you get to my door, tell them Boris sent you.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mari had encouraged people to bring headlamps and whatever else might pierce the darkness.&nbsp; Some dressed in hats, veils, and glowing necklaces of various designs like candy corn and other Halloween-themed icons. Rich Majer was most scary with his face smudged with some kind of make-up &#8230; looking like a true ghoul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.edmondspetanqueclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/pavilion-1.jpeg?resize=1024%2C576&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19417\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.edmondspetanqueclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/pavilion-1-980x551.jpeg 980w, https:\/\/www.edmondspetanqueclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/pavilion-1-480x270.jpeg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">&#8220;<strong>From my laboratory in the Castle east, to the master pavilion where the vampires feast<\/strong>&#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some were concerned with possible rain and then determined a little sprinkle wouldn&#8217;t bother ghoul boules!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>About 7 p.m. the customary throw out started the evening&#8217;s play.\u00a0 Two games of four and one game of five or six began the evening of trying to bash each other around in the dark.\u00a0 Players had just enough light to make out the cochonnet, though not enough to see &#8220;donays&#8221; which would have been helpful.\u00a0 As long as you could see the boule you wanted to shoot or the spot to land your point, it really did work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile is-vertically-aligned-center\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><video controls src=\"https:\/\/www.edmondspetanqueclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/janshooting-1.mov\"><\/video><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p><strong>Very spooky. Somehow Jan could make that shot, even in the dark.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>It was just weird, like she knew where the cochonnet was, <em>even though she COULD NOT SEE IT!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>People were also busy taking pictures &#8212; first of the gorgeous sunset with the group chomping at the bit to begin play.&nbsp; Others  got great pix of a waxing gibbous moon playing tag with the cirrus clouds, portending great weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.edmondspetanqueclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/larrymoon.jpeg?resize=768%2C1024&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19407\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>&#8220;The zombies were having fun. The party had just begun.
