Sierra Park in Edmonds was convenient, but play happened on a softball field, sloping and dusty, pretty much always. If the moon and tides were favorable, groups met at low tide on the beach near the ferry. This was excellent, but high tide persistently interfered. Then club players discovered Hubbard Homestead Park near Northgate. The terrain was ideal. Parking in the Target lot was convenient; but restrooms were not to be found. Northgate was perfect&#8230;.almost&#8230;.except it was not. Great rivalries sprang up on WhatsApp. &#8220;Let&#8217;s play at Northgate; No, I&#8217;m closer to Sierra.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was the stuff of ballads, or at least of &#8220;a&#8221; ballad; and that is what you have here: &#8220;The Ballad of Northgate and Sierra&#8221; (sung to the tune of &#8220;Guantanamera.&#8221;) The tune is timeless. The lyrics are not; and we hope that in a matter of two months, Edmonds Petanque will be able to return &#8220;home to the place we belong&#8221; as the song goes. Yo no lo quiero<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When I am dirty I get qualmas<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I keep the dirt off my palmas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And one thing I really hate:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s rolling boules over homeplate!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I don\u2019t like Sierra<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s just a bad piece of tierra<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But Angie gave us Sierra<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And I don\u2019t think it\u2019s been fair-a<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And one day out of the blue<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A new terrain came in play<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They call it Hubbart Northgate<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With perfect gravel and boules<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ok, fine, there\u2019s no toilet<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(But) that doesn\u2019t really spoil it<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guantanamera<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guajira Guantanamera<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guantanamera<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guajira Guantanamera<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But in the spring this will change<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No fight for Northgate or Sierra<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Won\u2019t have to choose where to play<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A new playfield is our tierra<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And now with so many new courts<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ll play the game that we love<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve got a tierra<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our very own special tierra<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Come play I dare ya<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In April we will be there-a<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guantanamera<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guajira Guantanamera<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guantanamera<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guajira Guantanamera<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the year 2022, the Edmonds Petanque Club was itinerant, carrying boules, circles, and cochonnets from one petanque venue to another while our new Petanque Grove was being constructed at the Edmonds Playfield.
