If you are new to the club or have not yet played in the league, you may be interested to learn more.<\/p>\n

League play is a lot of fun and really does introduce players to a wide range of club members.<\/p>\n

If you are a veteran and have played in the league for many years, maybe this is the year to work with another partner. Often players change teams, which always makes things interesting.\u00a0<\/p>\n

2026 Club Doubles League \u2014 Overview & Participation Guide<\/strong><\/h1>\n

The 2026 season brings a refreshed structure, clear expectations, and the same competitive spirit our members love. This guide outlines how the league operates so you can decide whether to participate and understand what to expect.<\/p>\n

\n

\ud83c\udfaf League Purpose & Format<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Club Doubles League is a select doubles competition<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Each team consists of two players who choose each other<\/strong> and remain partners for the entire season and post\u2011season.<\/li>\n
  • Any gender combination<\/strong> is welcome.<\/li>\n
  • All participants must be Club members or associate members<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The league is designed for players who:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • Want structured, competitive play similar to other select tournaments<\/li>\n
    • Understand and follow the rules of play<\/li>\n
    • Commit to completing all scheduled matches and participating in the post\u2011season tournament<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Newer players are welcome \u2014 many find the league accelerates their improvement \u2014 but should be aware that this is not casual play<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

      \n

      \ud83e\udd1d Finding a Partner<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      Newer members sometimes need help finding a teammate. Options include:<\/p>\n

        \n
      • Posting in the Club WhatsApp group<\/strong><\/li>\n
      • Emailing Doug and Ron by April 10<\/strong> to be listed as \u201cseeking a partner\u201d<\/li>\n
      • Selecting your teammate and submitting a completed registration form<\/strong> by the deadline<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          • All matches are played on the Club courts at 6th & Bell<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
          • Teams may choose an alternate location if all four players agree<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            \ud83d\udcc5 Season Schedule<\/strong><\/h2>\n

            Season Dates<\/strong><\/h3>\n
              \n
            • April 27 \u2013 June 6<\/strong><\/li>\n
            • Post\u2011season tournament:<\/strong> Saturday, June 13<\/strong><\/li>\n
            • The top team from each flight will play a championship match between these dates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              New for 2026: Two Flights<\/strong><\/h3>\n

              Teams select their preferred flight during registration:<\/p>\n

                \n
              1. Early Flight:<\/strong> April 27 \u2013 May 16<\/li>\n
              2. Late Flight:<\/strong> May 18 \u2013 June 6<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                Teams may also indicate willingness to play in the other flight if needed.<\/p>\n

                Match Scheduling<\/strong><\/h3>\n
                  \n
                • Default match days: Tuesday <\/strong>and Thursday<\/strong> (other days added if needed)<\/li>\n
                • Each team plays one match against every team in its flight<\/strong><\/li>\n
                • Each match consists of two games<\/strong><\/li>\n
                • Second game must begin within 15 minutes<\/strong> of the first ending<\/li>\n
                • Matches are listed at 10:00 a.m.<\/strong>, but teams may reschedule by mutual agreement<\/li>\n
                • Matches may be played before April 27<\/strong> if both teams agree and Club rules are followed<\/li>\n
                • All matches must be completed at least 10 days before the tournament<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                  Tardiness & Forfeits<\/strong><\/h3>\n
                    \n
                  • Arriving 15+ minutes late<\/strong> \u2192 opponent receives 1 point<\/strong>, plus 1 point every additional 5 minutes<\/strong><\/li>\n
                  • Second game must begin within 15 minutes<\/strong> of the first ending<\/li>\n
                  • Arriving more than 1 hour late<\/strong> without notice \u2192 forfeit<\/strong>, unless the opponent agrees to play<\/li>\n
                  • First request to avoid a forfeit must be honored; later requests are strongly encouraged<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                    \n

                    \ud83d\udd04 Substitutes<\/strong><\/h2>\n

                    Substitutes may be used when:<\/p>\n

                      \n
                    • A player cannot attend a scheduled match and rescheduling is not feasible<\/li>\n
                    • A player cannot participate in the post\u2011season tournament<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                      Rules:<\/p>\n

                        \n
                      • Only one substitute per team per game<\/strong><\/li>\n
                      • Substitutes must be Club members or associate members<\/strong><\/li>\n
                      • Substitutes cannot<\/strong> be members of another league team<\/li>\n
                      • Doug and Ron will provide a list of willing substitutes<\/li>\n
                      • Players must make reasonable efforts<\/strong> to invite listed substitutes before others<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                        \n

                        \ud83c\udfc6 Scoring, Standings & Seeding<\/strong><\/h2>\n

                        Match Format<\/strong><\/h3>\n

                        Each match consists of:<\/p>\n

                          \n
                        • Two games to 13 points<\/strong><\/li>\n
                        • Match points:<\/strong>\n
                            \n
                          • 1 point per game won<\/li>\n
                          • 1 additional point for highest total points across both games<\/strong><\/li>\n
                          • If cumulative points are tied \u2192 each team receives 1 game point + \u00bd of the bonus point<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                            Forfeits<\/strong><\/h3>\n
                              \n
                            • No match points awarded for forfeited games<\/li>\n
                            • Teams ready to play when opponents forfeit receive average match points<\/strong> from their other matches<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                              Standings & Reporting<\/strong><\/h3>\n
                                \n
                              • Teams must report results to both Doug and Ron within 48 hours<\/strong><\/li>\n
                              • Use the 2026 League WhatsApp group<\/strong> to maintain a record<\/li>\n
                              • Reports must include:\n
                                  \n
                                • Points scored by each team<\/li>\n
                                • Any forfeits<\/li>\n
                                • Any rescheduled match dates<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
                                • If only one team reports, that report is considered accurate<\/li>\n
                                • Conflicts are resolved by the teams or, if needed, the league jury<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                                  \ud83c\udfc5 League Champion & Awards<\/strong><\/h2>\n
                                    \n
                                  • The top team from each flight plays a 2\u2011game championship match<\/strong><\/li>\n
                                  • If tied after two games \u2192 a 1\u2011end tiebreaker<\/strong><\/li>\n
                                  • Winners:\n
                                      \n
                                    • Declared 2026 Doubles League Champions<\/strong><\/li>\n
                                    • Names engraved on the Chris Guitton Cup<\/strong><\/li>\n
                                    • Qualify for the Cross\u2011Sound Team<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
                                    • If champions cannot attend Cross\u2011Sound, the runner\u2011up team is invited<\/li>\n
                                    • Medals<\/strong> awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each flight<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                                      \n

                                      \ud83d\udcd8 Rules of Play<\/strong><\/h2>\n
                                        \n
                                      • The league follows current FPUSA rules<\/strong> and the Club\u2019s multi\u2011day tournament rules<\/strong><\/li>\n
                                      • Exceptions:\n
                                          \n
                                        • 60\u2011second throw rule not strictly enforced<\/li>\n
                                        • Jack and circle must be marked, but no penalties for forgetting<\/li>\n
                                        • Club rules override FPUSA rules for tardiness, absences, and suspensions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
                                        • Coin flip determines which team throws the jack first<\/li>\n
                                        • No umpires; disputed measurements require a neutral person<\/strong>, including other players<\/li>\n
                                        • Disputes unresolved by Doug or Ron go to the jury<\/strong>:\n

                                            \ud83e\udd1d Etiquette Expectations<\/strong><\/h2>\n

                                            Players must follow the Club\u2019s etiquette guidelines, including:<\/p>\n

                                            • Keeping boules clear of walkways<\/li>\n
                                            • Avoiding distractions when opponents are in the circle<\/li>\n
                                            • Standing in proper positions relative to the jack and throwing player<\/li>\n
                                            • Maintaining a reasonable pace of play<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                                              \n

                                              \u26a0\ufe0f Assumption of Risk<\/strong><\/h2>\n

                                              Participation implies acceptance of the Club\u2019s liability waiver, covering:<\/p>\n

                                              • Personal injury<\/li>\n
                                              • Illness (including communicable diseases)<\/li>\n
                                              • Property damage<\/li>\n
                                              • Risks to players, observers, family, friends, and guests<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                                                The league succeeds because players:<\/p>\n

                                                • Complete their matches<\/li>\n
                                                • Avoid forfeits<\/li>\n

                                                • Maintain sportsmanship and respect<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
